CField returns to profit after legacy jobs cleared

Family-run CField Construction has returned to profit after completing a number of challenging legacy contracts that dragged the London-based contractor into the red last year.

Turnover fell to £83m in the year to December 2025 from £119m previously, but improved project performance saw the business post a £3.3m pre-tax profit against a £1.2m loss in 2024.

Operating profit recovered to £3.1m from a £1.2m loss, giving the contractor an operating margin of around 3.7%.

CField said the turnaround followed completion of “a number of challenging legacy projects” during 2024.

Led by directors Patrick Crowley and Barry Crowley, CField operates in both Ireland and the UK, with the UK operation employing around 50 staff providing construction and civil engineering services to public and private sector clients.

Two months ago the firm secured a landmark £176m deal with developer Fusion Group to deliver two major student accommodation projects in London and Glasgow.

The contracts will see CField build a combined 1,269 purpose-built student beds and 79 affordable homes.

The biggest award (pictured above) is a £97m mixed-use scheme at Wood Green in north London for a 636-bed PBSA block alongside 79 affordable homes.

CField has also broken ground on a £79m scheme on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow to provide 633 student beds.

Gavin O’Flaherty, managing director of CField Construction, said: “Securing these two major contracts with Fusion Group is an important milestone for CField Construction.”

Last year’s recovery fed through strongly into year-end cash that more than doubled to £13.5m from £6.5m.
